When do you need Minitab 19 License Manager?

If your organization is using a multi-user version of Minitab, you will need a Minitab License Manager to be installed on a server. The latest version of Minitab License Manager can be downloaded from the official website of Mintab, using the credentials you were provided during your purchase or renewal of the software license.

If you are upgrading from Minitab 18 to Minitab 19, you need to ensure that you are using the latest version of license Manager. For Minitab 19.1, the license manager version is 1.8.0. To check which version of the License Manager you are currently running, choose one of the options below.

Minitab 19 License Manager for Windows

Verify Minitab License Manager (latest version is 1.8.0):

  1. On the machine where the License Manager is installed, open Control Panel > Programs > Programs and Features.
  2. Scroll to Minitab License Manager in your list of installed products and check the version.
  3. If your version is 1.8.0, then you have the latest version and no action is required.
  4. If you have a version prior to 1.8.0, then you can sign-in and download the latest version of the Minitab License Manager to upgrade.
  5. The installation will guide you through the upgrade process.

Verify lmgrd.exe (latest version is 11.16.2.0):

  1. On the machine where the License Manager is installed, browse to the installation directory.
    • 32-bit operating system: C:\Program Files\Minitab\License Manager
    • 64-bit operating system: C:\Program Files (x86)\Minitab\License Manager
  2. Right-click lmgrd.exe to select Properties.
  3. Select the Details tab and view the File version.
  4. If your version is 11.16.2.0, then you have the latest version and no action is required.
  5. If you have a version prior to 11.16.2.0, then you can sign-in and download the latest version of the Minitab License Manager to upgrade.
  6. The installation will guide you through the upgrade process.

Minitab 19 License Manager for OS X

Verify lmgrd (latest version is 11.16.2.0):

  1. On the machine where the License Manager is installed, open a Terminal window. You can find the Terminal application in /Application/Utilities or by typing "terminal" in Spotlight Search.
  2. To navigate to the location of the License Manager and view the FlexNet version, type the following commands in the Terminal window: 
    cd "Library/Application Support/Minitab/License Manager"
./lmgrd -v
  3. If your version is 11.16.2.0, then you have the latest version and no action is required.
  4. If you have a version prior to 11.16.2.0, then you can sign-in and download the latest version of the Minitab License Manager to upgrade.
